The Music of the 77s...

ep

1999 Produced by the 77s. Executive Producers Curt & Debbie Cosenza for Fools of the World
The Years Go Down/ Sevens/ Unbalanced/ Blue Sky/ The Best I Have

The 77s are, and have been, one of the most important bands in Christian music since they hit the scene in 1983. Sixteen years later they are just as vital and progressive as ever. Their latest, independently released project offers five brand new songs and close to 30 minutes of playing time. EP is a breath of fresh air amongst piles of pre-fab horn-ladened altera-whatever music being gushed over by the mainstream and Christian music industries. Intended as a jump-start to the band's recording and touring career, EP does much more. The first single "Sevens" features Roe's voice in top-form and the strength of a pop hook in the hands of this seasoned band. " Unbalanced," on the other hand, assures all present that the Zeppelin loving blues rock side of the band is alive and well. In between is the power-pop ala Cheap Trick of "Blue Sky," and a pair of other 77s gems.

The only complaint would be the brevity. Five songs just ain't enough when it comes to this band. A new album is scheduled for the fall, but we'll believe it when we see it right? For now though, this is wonderful. EP is definitely no throw-away. -John J. Thompson (TrueTunes.com)
