The Itch Is Back
from the album "Say Your Prayers"

(Michael Roe)

I’ve been gone a long long time I know
Been holding up hiding out with my old radio
Trying to learn to sound like a sad folk singer
I’m a long way from my days of live wires
And way too long gone drop dead ringers

Found a liberty bell hidin’ out in my attic
Gonna take it out and have a good hard whack at it
Maybe the sound will set me free
They say I’m more square than around these days
I don’t know where to start these days
I don’t feel too smart these days
That’s why I went away

But the itch
The itch is back
To scratch that part of my heart and begin
On the long, long road back
Still got a long way to go
But I’m movin’ slow

I’ve been crawling out of a cold hard funk
Readin’ too many lies and eatin’ too much junk
I’m up too early and down too late
No time to live, love, laugh
And I hate that I was brought up right
But took myself down low
Landed hard in the gutter when I fell off the high road
Crawlin’…..
Now I’m crawling around
Wondering how I’m gonna get up now

But the itch
Itch is back
To scratch that part of my heart and begin
On the long, long road back
Still got a long way to go

Talkin’ ‘bout the itch
The itch is back
To scratch that part of my heart and start
On the long, long road back
Still got a long way to go

I know that I can’t go back no more
Don’t want nothin’ that I wasn’t created for
I want nothing to hide
I need someone inside
Not along for the ride
But the long road abidin’ cuz…
